(BPT) - Mayonnaise is a kitchen staple, and even though the classic condiment has been around for many years, it appears America's love affair with the tasty spread is only getting bigger.

From increased use to trying new flavors to testing different recipes, there's a lot more people are doing with mayo than simply spreading it on sandwiches. Here are some hot mayo trends you need to know:

More people are reaching for mayonnaise

Frequency of mayonnaise usage was up to 54 percent in Jan 2017 with people who use it several times a week or more, according to the 'Spoonable Salad Dressings Attitude & Usage Study' by The Association for Dressings and Sauces. This is an increase compared to 45 percent in 2014.

Flavored mayo tantalizes taste buds

The study also found four out of 10 mayonnaise buyers use flavored mayonnaise. The most popular flavors of mayonnaise are bacon, garlic and herb, roasted garlic and chipotle, any of which makes for a tasty shrimp dip. Yum!

Younger people enjoy new flavors

More men and younger people use flavored mayonnaise, the study found. Want to try a new flavor and see what all the fuss is about? Grab some roasted garlic mayo and make savory Greek Meatballs that are great alone or stuffed into a fresh pita.

More than a sandwich spread

Top uses for mayo include as an ingredient in cold salads or chilled dip, on green salads as a dressing and a baking ingredient. Some use it as a basting marinade to kick up the flavor. Want to use mayo to create an incredibly satisfying appetizer? You can't go wrong with Smokey Onion Kale Dip that features the firecracker flavors of chipotle mayo.

Mayo lovers have fun and get creative

The sky's the limit when it comes to mayonnaise. Think beyond the sandwich and get creative, such as with Candied Curried Nuts that use curry mayo for an unbelievably tasty result that blends savory, sweet and salty flavors. For more recipe inspiration, visit www.dressings-sauces.org.
